Beth Burton

Postdoctoral Associate

Beth received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Bachelor of Arts in Music (piano) from Gettysburg College in 2018. She then went on to receive her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from The University of Pennsylvania in 2024, where she was mentored by Dr. Struan Grant and Dr. Casey Brown and performed variant-to-function mapping and functional characterization of a novel Alzheimer’s disease-associated variant and regulatory element. Now, as a postdoctoral associate in the Type 2 Diabetes Systems Genomics Initiative, she is jointly mentored by Dr. Melina Claussnitzer and Dr. J.T. Neal, and uses large-scale imaging-based screens in order to identify molecular mechanisms of metabolic disease.

In her free time, Beth can be found cheering on her favorite Philadelphia sports teams (go Birds!), snuggling her pet rabbit Penguin, crocheting ridiculously large blankets, and finding the best food and coffee Boston has to offer.
