Joaquin Pérez-Schindler
Research Scientist II
Joaquín obtained a Ph.D. in cellular biology at the University of Basel in 2013. Next, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Basel (Switzerland) and a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Birmingham (UK). His previous work focused on investigating gene regulatory mechanisms controlling the function of metabolically active tissues (e.g., skeletal muscle and liver) in response to exercise and nutrients. Currently, he is working with pooled natural genetic variation and stimulation screens focused on defining the functional effect of genetic and environmental factors in the development of metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes.
Outside of work he enjoys rock climbing.
