Associated Researcher

Sunita Virk Singh Poma is a Research Associate II at the Claussnitzer Lab of Type 2 Diabetes Systems Genomics group at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Her research experiences and educational background is to deliver advancement through innovative research. She recently graduated and earned her MS degree in Biomedical Engineering & Biotechnology with honors in 2022 from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. She also earned a BSe in Chemical Engineering & Biological Engineering in 2021 and earned a BS in Economics in 2019 from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Her past research investigates the genetic variation and genome sequencing technologies poised to reveal diabetes genes. As she conducted her research, she proposed various innovative biomedical technology used to reverse diabetes. Biostatistical data was created through performed computations using RStudio, MATLAB, and STATA on high-risk individuals demonstrating the need to examine the effectiveness of public health services on those affected by diabetes.

Sunita also worked with a team of researchers on the application driven framework for delivering system and product lifecycle management concepts in engineering education. The research conducted explained steps and applications of manufacturing a product from beginning to end of its lifecycle to improve the design of systems and products with consideration of environmental issues and lifecycle analysis enabling a digital transformation. The facilitated research provided excellent knowledge of good manufacturing practices and quality risk management practices as it’s related to software tools such as CAAD, and information systems such as GIS & Teamcenter. This published researched educational module on product lifecycle management (PLM) is currently being implemented into senior undergraduate course or entry level graduate course for engineering students.

During her free time, she enjoys reading books, listening to music, and dancing bhangra!
